Changes to the Hunter River Community Fridge
After careful consideration, the decision has been made to change how those experiencing food insecurity in the Hunter River area receive help. In order to ensure that food is distributed in a more equitable and consistent manner, starting in December 2024, the Hunter River Community Fridge will become known as the Hunter River Helping Hand Program. This program will be a once a month food pick up on the second Monday of each month for residents of Hunter River, Greenvale, Brookfield, Rennies Road, New Glasgow, Wheatley River, Hazel Grove, Fredericton and Darlington that register with the program.
Registration for the program can be done Monday-Thursday between 9am and 2pm at the municipal office located in the Hunter River Community Centre at 19816 Route 2. Registration forms will be available in the Hunter River Community Fridge. For more information you can contact the office at 902-621-2170 or email admin.hunter.river@gmail.com. Forms and must be completed by November 21st in order to receive a food pick up in December . The first pick up for those registered will be Monday, December 9th between 9am and 2pm or 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Registered users will need to inform the office by the last Monday of each month if they will be requiring assistance the following month.
Food and monetary donations can be dropped off at the Hunter River Community Centre during regular office hours, Monday-Thursday between 9am and 2pm. The municipal office can be contacted for further details or to answer questions you may have. The final day of operation for the Hunter River Community Fridge will be Friday, November 22,2024.
